ORIGIN: Sourced from our Napa Valley estate vineyards, this wine consists of Merlot (76%), Cabernet Sauvignon (13%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Malbec (2%.) The VINEYARD: Our vineyards are densely planted to as many as 4,000 vines per acre. The resulting stress on the vines enhances flavor concentration and complexity in the grapes. The Merlot portion is a blend of clones 181 from WINEMAKING: The wine underwent an extended maceration period of up to 30 days to develop supple tannins. Following a 17 month aging period in heavily toasted, chateau-style French oak barrels, the wine was bottled without fining in July and August of 2003. ORIGINAL TASTING NOTES: This graceful medium to full bodied Merlot opens with aromas of sweet berries, cherries, and hints of brown sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, mace, tea and tobacco. The mid-palate reveals flavors of sweet, fresh red berries and dried blueberries. The smoky, toasty finish boasts lingering flavors of dried berries. This wine may be enjoyed now or you may choose to cellar it for up to eight years. CURRENT TASTING NOTES: The 2001 Crimson Creek Merlot has lean varietal red berry and cherry aromas and flavor. Some earthiness and herbs come through on the palate as well as the finish. Drink now. FOOD PAIRINGS: Herb-Crusted Veal Chop with Toasted Barley & Pommery Mustard or Grilled Duck Breast with Green Beans Provençale CHEESE PAIRING: Abbaye de Belloc The vintage produced 15,000 (750ml) cases. |
